Kuala Lumpur – The national women’s 4x100m relay quartet set a new national record in finishing fifth at the Asian Track and Field Championships in Bhubaneswar, India on Thursday.
The foursome of Nurul Faizah Asma Mazlan, Siti Fatima Mohamad, Zaidatul Husniah Zulkifli and S. Komalam Shally timed 45.18 seconds in the final.
The effort was an improvement on the time of 45.19s set by Siti Fatima, Husniah, Komalam and Shereen Samson Vallabouy at the Thailand Open on June 15

Malaysia finished behind regional rivals Thailand, who clocked 44.74s for fourth place, with Kazakhstan taking gold in 43.53s, China the silver in 44.50s and India the bronze in 44.57s.
The men’s 4x100m relay quartet of Jonathan Nyepa, Badrul Hisyam Manap, Nixson Kennedy and Khairul Hafiz Jantan finished fifth in the final in 39.98 seconds as China edged Thailand for the gold medal in a photo-finish after both relay teams timed 39.38s.
In other events, high jumper Lee Hup Wei, the 2007 Asian champion, tied for sixth after clearing 2.20 metres, while Jackie Wong finished eighth in the men’s hammer with a throw of 64.84m.
